Windows Vista™ Beta 2 x64 Review

By Subbu

I Finally Got My Hands on Windows Vista Beta 2 (x64 Edition)..
I Tried it on my 1 Year Old Rig.. Consisting
  • AMD 64 3200+ (OCed to 2.3 Ghz)
  • ULi M1689 Chipset
  • 1GB DDR 400
  • nVIDIA Geforce 6800 Vanilla 128MB
  • Seagate 200GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
  • And the Usual...
Please Forgive the English that Follows..

Since I Dual Boot Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux 6.06.. (I Use NTLDR to Initialize GRUB :p)
I Chose x64 Edition cuz I Use a 64Bit CPU, The Performance Difference is not Much.. But 64Bit _is_ 64Bit!

Now for the Installation!
I Backuped Everything Just in Case, Made Sure there Was Enough Space on the C: (Has Installed XP on D)
I Just Booted Using the Vista DVD.. I Was Surprised that the Installer was a GUI One!!
The Installation was Straight Forward.. the Partitioner was easy.. I Just Picked up C: and It Began Installing.

About 30-40 Minutes Later, I Was on the Desktop!.. Now Starts the Fun of Playing with a New OS :)
Luckily My Mobo Manufacturer had Vista 64Bit Drivers in Place, So it Was a Breeze to Install the Drivers,
Next I Downloaded the Latest nVIDIA Drivers, But Coudnt Get my Fav. Resolution to Work, So Had to Revert.

Played Around for an Hour to Make Myself Familiar with the Control Panel, Settings, etc..
The New UI (AERO) is Slick and Looks Cool!! So Many new Things have been Added,
Had a Great Time Playing with All!

Some 32bit Applications Work Good.. Some Don't.. Most of the Applications Installed Without a Flaw
But I'm Yet to Find a Virtual Drive Software that Works..

Using Vista was a Great Experience!.. Cant Wait for it to Release!!
